Investing might be a little risky right now.I would suggest a Home Based Business or something along that line where you could actively make money but with alot less risk.

People, for some reason, take their retirement for granted and make no investments or save no money for the future. These people are a burden to their children. I realize that children's responsibility is to take care of their parents when they get older, but being ignorant is not a excuse.

But with the markets having bottomed out in the recent financial crisis, individuals approaching retirement age in the next 3 to 5 years have to consider their options and the viability of staying the course.

The fact is, money invested in the stock market now may not yield as much of a return in the next 5 years as it could being invested in other assets. It's true -- stock is cheap now, and many people will probably experience massive returns on equity purchased in this period. But if you'll be retiring in the next few years, you might consider if that applies to you.

I think good dividend paying stocks must be added and some reits trust to keep income coming in also.

In light of the current global financial turmoil, investing something poses a lot of risk. I would suggest that a retiree would opt for travel and perhaps write a book out of the travel experience. Or invest in home-based online business.
