This is such a tough time for older investors right now. Younger investors have the ability to double down at the market bottom and make out well in 20 or 30 years. Older investors need to recoup their nestegg and work further past retirement age just to survive.
Good advice is a precious commodity in this arena.

Newsletters like these is what makes a great site stand out from the crowd. It is really rare to find good and free investment resources online these days. Many people search for retirement investment advice and I know for a fact that they get misinformed by many sites out there. Thanks for having built such a complete resource. I will recommend your site to my clients.

Investment is the last thing the elderly should be looking for right now considering how the economy is looking for the next decade.
At least any of the traditional types of investment. CD rates are a joke, housing will continue to fall in prices for another 25-45% over the next 5 years, the stock market is nothing more than gambling, commodities are manipulated by players much larger than all most all elderly can deal with, etc.
If you absolutely must have investment income I’d go with fresh water and or lumber commodities as these are sustainable, valuable and renewable and most likely to hold their value over the long term with potential for water to rise over the next decade as China and India’s demands grow beyond their capacity to produce.
Under no circumstances should you place your money in the banks and allow them to make the obscene profits off your money they are making while giving you a return of one percent or less. Example: You put 100k in XYZ bank, using fractional banking they loan this money out 9-10 times making loans of up to one million dollars at a minimum of 6-7% interest making around a 60-70% return off your money and sharing as little as 1/240th of that if your money is in a regular savings account.
Doubt these figures? Do the math yourself and you’ll see what I mean about banking your money. Your better off placing your money in jars and digging a hole in the backyard these days. At least you’ll know its there if your bank shuts down an the FDIC insurance fund is dry!
I know I sound rather negative, but frankly I don’t trust our government right now and the Federal Reserve is a joke they need to deal with before I ever begin to start trusting them again. And bankers, well after looking into the history of capitalism I’ll never trust them.

Planning for retirement is so important. Great information. Thanks
October 16th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
I’m currently opening up a special kind of 401k for a one-person Sub S corporation called a Single K. Never knew this specific plan existed and it should help me save enough in taxes for a new Kia Soul. I’d strongly recommend everyone to get good sound financial advice. It can make a big difference.
October 17th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
I agree this should definitely be an interesting newsletter. I especially hope a lot of seniors discover the newsletter since they are so financially vulnerable in this economy with so many people and companies ready to take advantage of them.

Stock markets are too sensitive too political changes to invest in other than State Bonds and the like. It’s pretty crazy that the Dow directly follows decisions made by the Obama administration

Another part of the financial planning department is finding a retirement community (if that’s what you want) that is not only affordable but nice! A good site to browse is http://www.55places.com as this gives you a nationwide searching tool.
